In Advent, Matthew’s gospel becomes the gospel reading we will hear in the new liturgical year most weeks. On Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15, Fr. Steven will lead a conversation on what Matthew emphasizes about who Jesus is and what he wants us to learn in reading this gospel. We will share about how that enables and directs our walk as we seek to follow the Light of Christ.
Dean Loya will lead a discussion and reflection on the book Mindful Silence: The Heart of Christian Contemplation by Phileena Heuertz on Wednesday evenings in Advent from 6:15-7:15pm. Our world is constantly busy and loud, especially in this season. Distractions and shouts for our attention are abundant. Creating space for silence and stillness is an essential practice of hearing God’s voice and discerning God’s presence in our lives. Come, share, and learn about ways to make this practice a part of your life.
Join us for Contemplative Holy Eucharist at 5:45 pm in the Cathedral, followed by Bible Study.
Our Trinity Cathedral Choir joins the Saint Cecilia Cathedral Choir for a choral liturgy of evening prayer. Other guest choirs will join in the singing of the music of Advent, including a newly commissioned setting of the Magnificat (The Song of Mary). Free admission.
“A Traditional Holiday” will be observed when Trinity’s Historical Society hosts the December 15 Coffee Hour in the Clarkson Center after the 10:30 AM service. This year the society members will decorate the Clarkson Center and parish hall parlor in traditional décor. Enjoy the wreaths and greens and baubles and ribbons as they form montages of holidays through the ages.

The first season of the church year, beginning with the fourth Sunday before Christmas and continuing through the day before Christmas. The name is derived from a Latin word for "coming." The season is a time of preparation and expectation for the coming celebration of our Lord's nativity, and for the final coming of Christ "in power and glory."
