Compline – night prayer – is the final worship of the day in the monastic system of canonical hours. Dating from the fourth century, this contemplative office focuses on spiritual peace.
During the 35 minutes of sung Compline, no words are spoken; worshipers bathe in beautiful, timeless music, sung by Trinity’s Schola Cantorum. With lights dimmed and candles flickering, the calming ancient chants offer time and space for personal meditation and reflection. You will be invited to light a candle, offer prayers, and be still in God’s presence.
The liturgy is designed to bring a sense of deep inner peace as we begin a new week. Our Trinity Cathedral Schola Cantorum chants the Compline liturgy, and they also offer several unaccompanied anthems appropriate for nightfall and each liturgical season.
Enter the darkened cathedral, light a candle, and experience transcendence. Compline is offered once a month at 7:00 p.m. Contact our Canon Precentor, Marty Wheeler Burnett, or Brother James Dowd for more information.
