The season of Advent marks the beginning of a new liturgical year. The liturgical color for the season is purple. The candles of the Advent wreath mark our progress through these four Sundays of preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas. Advent service music is often contemplative in tone, including the ancient Trisagion, a prayer for mercy. Greenery takes the place of flowers on the altar to help set this season apart. Advent hymns and readings help us prepare our hearts and minds for the gift of Christ’s Incarnation and the joy of Christmas. Worship allows us to take our minds off the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and focus instead on prayer, reflection, and service to others. As a popular Advent calendar states, “Slow Down. Quiet. It’s Advent.”
Join us for Holy Eucharist at 8:30 am and 10:30 am on the Sundays of Advent!
