Adult Formation with Mother Kate Hennessy-Keimig+ (Copy)

For the first part of the Summer, we will, as is our custom, be studying the primary Gospel of the Season. This year is the Gospel of Matthew. We will be exploring this Gospel from the perspective of the Five Great Discourses. Many scholars believe that this design on Matthew’s part was deliberate and was modeled on the structure of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the OT), or that he may be presenting the gospel as a new Torah and Jesus as a new and greater Moses. Each of the sections contain a bit of context, the discourse and end with the refrain, “When Jesus had finished saying these things,” or similar words.

Our meeting dates and reading schedule are as follows:

6/10 Chapters 5-7 focusing on the Sermon on the Mount

6/17 Chapter 10 focusing on the commissioning of the Apostles

6/24 Chapter 13 focusing on the parables about the Kingdom of Heaven

7/1 Chapter 18 focusing on the Discourse on the Church

7/8 Chapters 24-25 focusing on the Discourse on the End Times

We will begin at 5:45 with evening Prayer, followed by our session from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Clarkson Center.
